We are looking for highly-driven and compassionate Legal Assistants to join our Personal Injury or Family Law teams. 

The role is full-time, although we will consider 4 days per week or equivalent (30 hours split over multiple days) for the right candidates to accommodate your study program. The role is based at our Wollongong office.

The Day-To-Day

A Legal Assistant is the entry position into our firm. You will be a full member of our team assisting one-to-two lawyers with their file load, and develop the essential practical experience, professional skills and working knowledge to flourish in the law.

You will:

– Coordinate all aspects of appointments, meetings, and calls.

– Manage complex calendars on an ongoing basis.

– Manage, sort, and collate incoming correspondence.

– Be the key point of communication on behalf of the lawyers you assist, liaising with external legal professionals, barristers, and most importantly our clients.

– Review files and documents and assist with drafting correspondence, briefs, pleadings and more.

– Assist lawyers with the day-to-day running and administration of their files.

The successful candidates will go through a formal training program and will become part of an inclusive and collegial team. In the role you will develop:

– Experience in litigation practice (Personal Injury assistants).

– Experience dealing with clients and their expectations.

– Build your communication skills with clients and other lawyers.

– Liaise with Counsel, medical professionals, and other experts.

– Develop your legal writing skills.

– Learn and hone forensic skills as you assist the lawyers.

About You

Required skills:

– 1+ years experience in a legal setting   

– Strong organisational skills

– Strong verbal and written communication skills

– Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities

– High level of professional integrity and confidentiality

– Courtesy and good etiquette

Desirable, but not required:

– Be working towards a related undergraduate or postgraduate degree with a strong academic record

– Previous work experience in law

– Experience using LEAP Legal software or similar

The role is full-time based at our Wollongong office, although we would consider permanent part time or flexible hours for the right candidate. If you are outside the area, talk to us about a potential relocation package.

About The Role

At Nikolovski Lawyers, our personal injury team represent plaintiffs and injured persons. You would be responsible for end-to-end management of a file load across a broad range of personal injury matters including public liability, workers compensation, motor vehicle accidents, institutional abuse, medical negligence, dust diseases and total and permanent disablement claims. This includes:

– Meeting with clients, taking instructions and providing sound legal advice

– Investigating personal injury claims

– Drafting applications, court documents, pleadings, particulars, etc.

– Corresponding with other parties to resolve matters

– Briefing Counsel

– Appearing at settlement conferences and mediations

– Appearing in Court and in the Personal Injury Commission 

– Settling claims and finalisation of matters

About You

To be competitive for this role you must have: 

– Been admitted to practice law in NSW  

At least 2 years PAE in Personal Injury Law in NSW (either Plaintiff or Defendant)

– Strong knowledge across various personal injury matters including the associated legislation, guidelines, etc.

– A good understanding of Court and Personal Injury Commission proceedings

– Strong technical legal skills and the ability to draft proficient legal documents

– The capability to work autonomously on personal injury matters from initial consultation to conclusion

About The Role

At Nikolovski Lawyers, our employment team predominantly represent workers. You would be responsible for end-to-end management of a file load across a broad range of employment matters including dispute resolution, unfair dismissal claims, disciplinary actions, discrimination and harassment claims. This includes:

– Meeting with clients, taking instructions and providing sound legal advice

– Investigating employment claims

– Drafting applications, court documents, pleadings, particulars, etc.

– Corresponding with other parties to resolve matters

– Briefing Counsel

– Appearing at settlement conferences and mediations

– Appearing in Court, the Fair Work Commision and Industrial Relations Commission

– Settling claims and finalisation of matters

About You

To be competitive for this role you must have: 

– Been admitted to practice law in NSW  

At least 2 years PAE in Employment/Industrial Relations Law in NSW (either Employee or Employer)

– Strong knowledge across various employment matters including the associated legislation, guidelines, etc.

– A good understanding of the various Commissions and Courts

– Strong technical legal skills and the ability to draft proficient legal documents

– The capability to work autonomously on employment matters from initial consultation to conclusion
